If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I love a good renovation project. I have done so many different themed trailers like this Mediterranean style or the girly pastel camper. And this time, I’m taking on something a little different—a 1959 Kencraft vintage trailer! I’ve been dreaming of fixing up this classic camper for a while now, and so happy it is finally time to start. So, let’s talk about the history of Kencraft trailers, the plan for this renovation, and what’s next!
A Bit of Kencraft History
Kencraft trailers were built in the late 1950s and early 1960s, known for their sturdy aluminum frame construction and timeless design. Unlike some of the more lightweight campers from this era, Kencraft models were built with quality and longevity in mind. My specific trailer has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of around 3,500 lbs, making it a solid but towable option for travel once it’s fully restored.
This one has definitely seen better days, but I love the shape, the character, and the potential it holds. From the faded exterior to the outdated interior, it’s got that “she’s been through some things” look, but that’s exactly why I’m excited to bring it back to life.

The Vision: Cottage Vibes with a Vintage Twist
Now, onto the fun part—the design! I want to keep as much of the original wood tones as possible while enhancing the space with classic cottage-style details. Here’s what I have planned so far:
- ✅ Wood Walls & Molding: Keeping the existing wood tones but adding molding to give it that custom, built-in look.
- ✅ Pops of White: Lightening up the space by incorporating soft white elements, especially in the kitchen.
- ✅ Brass Accents: Warm brass fixtures, cabinet hardware, and lighting to enhance the vintage charm.
- ✅ Farmhouse Sink & Butcher Block Countertops: Swapping out the old kitchen sink for a farmhouse-style one and adding butcher block counters for warmth and durability.
- ✅ Fridge/Closet Changes: The biggest change will be to the area where the existing fridge is. I plan to make more counter space and open the area up more.
- ✅ Epoxy Backsplash: Creating a custom epoxy backsplash that adds a unique and easy-to-clean surface in the kitchen.
- ✅ Keeping the Bathroom Sink: The bathroom sink is staying! I love the character it brings, and it fits perfectly with the vintage aesthetic.
- ✅ Keeping the Bathroom Sink: The bathroom sink is staying! I love the character it brings, and it fits perfectly with the vintage aesthetic.
- ✅ Cozy Cottage Aesthetic: Think soft textiles, floral and nature-inspired prints, and a mix of modern function with old-school charm.
I put together a mood board (pictured below) to help guide my design choices, pulling inspiration from soft neutral cabinetry, vintage-style lighting, and timeless materials like marble and wood.
